—Hand washing is the first line of defense against the spread of infectious disease.
—It's never too early to teach children about proper habits and hand washing techniques. Children as young as three can grasp the importance and techniques of proper hand washing.
—Make hand washing fun for your kids. They should wash their hands for 15 seconds which is about the time it takes to sing "Happy Birthday". Try some other fun songs too.
—Adults should lead by example. Children pay attention to adult behavior. Be sure you practice good hand washing hygiene and kids will follow.
—Keep a liquid soap on hand. According to the Health Resources and Services Administration, liquid soap products are easier for children to use.
